Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy was born on September 8, 1892, and died on December 5, 1963. He was a famous Bengali politician and lawyer. He deeply respected democratic norms and public opinion and was called the 'son of democracy.'

He was born in an aristocratic family of Medinipur in present-day West Bengal. He was the youngest child of Zahid Suhrawardy, a renowned judge of the Calcutta High Court. According to the Muslim family custom, his family members speak Urdu. However, Suhrawardy learned the Bengali language on his initiative and practiced Bengali. He started his education at St. Xavier's College after his education at Calcutta Aliya Madrasa. Suhrawardy then obtained a master's in Arabic language and literature from Calcutta University. He later graduated from Oxford University in the United Kingdom in 1913 with honors in science. He studied law and passed the Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.). He graduated from Gray's Inn in 1918 with a Bar in law degree. He returned to Calcutta in 1921 and engaged in the legal profession.
He married Begum Niaz Fatima and started his married life in 1920. Begum Niaz Fatima was the daughter of Sir Abdur Rahim, then Home Minister of British India. She died in 1922. Afterward, Sehrawardy married a Russian actress of Polish descent, Vera Alexandrovna Tiscenko Calder. Sir Suhrawardy left the country in 1963 for health reasons and died in December 1963 in Beirut, Lebanon. His death is a mystery to many.
