When the war of liberation started, the Hindu localities near and far away from the Nagari Mission began to take refuge in Nagari Mission centers in groups due to the arson, torture, and massacres by the invading Pakistani forces. At that time Pastor of Urban Mission was American Clergy, Fr Edmund N Goedert csc. About 40,000 homeless refugees arrive at this shelter camp run by the mission center within a couple of days. In addition to providing shelter and food to this large number of refugees, medical services are also needed. At that time, Dr Bernard Rosario also known as Benu doctor of Nagari came forward. Missionary sisters assisted him in charge of the mission's medical center. They used to provide medical services to the refugees and treated the freedom fighters secretly.
On July 25, a group of freedom fighters blew up the Nalchata railway bridge near Doripara village along with a moving train. To treat the injured, Dr. Bernard and Fr. Goedert . proceeded to the spot by boat, flying a white flag but had to escape by jumping into the water when the Pakistani forces opened fire.

A few weeks later, when Pak forces came to Nagri Mission and searched for Banart and his wife, Lina Rosario, Father Gedert CSC advised Dr. Bernard and Lina to leave Nagri and migrate that night immediately. That night they left for Agartala with their entire family, keeping behind the Freedom Fighter Medical Center of Nagri School, the Mukti Jodha Medical Center of Bagdi School, and the round-the-clock candle-lit hurricane medical center hidden in the pineapple garden of Bhasania village.
After crossing many hurdles, Dr. Bernard Rosario escaped with his family and reached Tripura. Canadian Fr. George Lexair, the pastor of Maryamnagar Mission there, gave them a place in the mission.
Fa: The doctor, knowing the identity, sent Dr. Bernard Rosario to the 82 Mile Refugee Camp to support medical treatment. Dr. Barnard was responsible for the refugee camp by arranging accommodation in the hill village of 'Kanchanchara' in Agartala. Fr. George Leclaire, on behalf of CARITAS, India, and Major Michael, on behalf of the government, was responsible for managing the refugee camps there.
Major Jagmohan Singh, chief of Delhi's Combined Military Hospital, was under overall supervision. Dr. Bernard was entrusted with the camp's health protection and medical management. After all the work, on March 10, 1972, Dr. Bernard Rosario returned to independent sovereign Bangladesh.
Later he started private practice in Joydevpur and lived there with his family.
