Poet Gobind Chandra Das

He is a poet by nature. Although the love of men and women is the main theme of his poetry, patriotism, rural nature, and human life have been described in his poetry.

Gobind Chandra Das was born on 16 January 1855 (4 Magh 1261). Unable to bear the debt burden a few years before his birth, his grandfather Bholanath Das left Maheshwardi and settled down with his family in deep forest Dhirashram village, Gazipur.


A few years after the poet's birth, his father, Ramnath Das, died in 1860, and his mother, Anandamoyee Devi, in ​​1861. The Bhawal Raja Kali Narayan Roy graciously gave a monthly stipend of 4 takas and 1 acre of land. He was the shepherd of the childless uncle's cow. Rani Sattyavama was admitted to a minor school with a student scholarship in 1866. However, the poet could not continue his studies. Later in 1877, he became the personal secretary of Bhawal Raj Kumar Rajendra Narayan. Gobind Chandra Das is one of the contemporary poets of Rabindranath.


The well-known Pandit Kaliprasanna Ghosh was then the Dewan of Bhawal Estate. Dewan Kaliprasanna Ghosh had a conflict with Govinda Chandra Das. The poet's crime was that he protested against the corruption of the Dewan, the injustice, and the tyranny of the king. It is this protest that causes him suffering. He has fallen into Dewan's evil eyes. Lose job He was evicted from his ancestral home. Dewan's people destroyed houses with elephants. Poet Gobindra Chandra Das was forced to leave the area due to the persecution of Dewan Kaliprasanna Ghosh. As a result of this plot, Gobind Chandra Das had to leave his motherland Bhawal and sometimes go to Muktagacha and Munshiganj.

Poet Govinda Chandra Das published literature on the misrule of the Bhawal kings in the literary magazine 'Nabayug' from Calcutta. Bengal In 1284, the poet took the side of the subjects against the tyranny of the Bhawal kings. As a result, Bhawal Raja became disgusted with him, and a feminist lie was told against him.


By capitalizing on these three issues, in the month of Falgun 1298, Bhawal Raj Rajendra Narayan Roy exiled the poet. The royal sentence was such that he (Govinda Chandra Das) should leave Joydebpur for good at this very moment. Poet Govinda Chandra Das left his motherland Joydevpur in distress and moved to Muktagachha in 1880. After spending some time there, in 1883, he joined the Charubarta of Horochandra Chowdhury, the zamindar of Sherpur. He stayed here till the first stage of 1892.

Then the poet moved to Munshiganj in 1892 in search of livelihood. On the advice of the famous literary Devi Prasanna Roy Chowdhury, a weekly called 'Prakriti' started publishing 'Mugher Mulluk.'


The poem Outraged the royal family, filed a defamation suit against Anukul Chandra Mukherjee, editor of Prakriti, in the Dhaka Magistrate's Court in 1893. As a result of this case, the poem Mager Mulluk became very popular. 'Muger Mulluk' was published in book form and gained a considerable readership. However, the case was later withdrawn at the request of Bankim Chandra.

His first wife died when Gobindo Chandra was in a very miserable situation. He later married Pramada Sundari of Brahmangaon village in Louhjong Upazila of Munshiganj. Poet Govinda Chandra Das inherited the property of Pramadar's father. Once, the poet was beaten and injured in the village of Latabdi in Sirajdikhan of Munshiganj while composing Moger Mulluk, which was also the conspiracy of Kali Prasanna Ghosh, the manager of Bhawal Rajbari.

Poet Govinda Chandra Das contracted Poison boil in 1913 and was admitted to Dhaka Mitford Hospital. Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das financially supported the poet Govinda Chandra Das. The poet has had to spend his whole life in financial difficulties. Not much has been written about this patriotic poet who has been starving all his life. Only a few books by the poet have been collected. Lately, there has yet to be a book of poetry by Govinda Chandra Das. The poet Govinda Das is getting lost in our memory. The poet continued to write despite pain and illness.

'The day is over; my day is over.

The sun was sinking in the middle of the evening,

and the day was spent in vain.

He used to write such touching poems in his last years. Suffering from disease, grief, and hunger, the poet died on 13 Ashwin 1325, 30 September 1918 at the house of Chandra Kant Ghosh, the zamindar of Vikrampur, Narinder, Dhaka.


He had two daughters and a son. The youngest daughter is Voktimoyi; she later married Haripada Bhowmik and has three children mother. The name of the grandson was Dilip Bhowmik (1948-1998).
