Padma Bridge the challenge

The mighty torrent Jamuna and Padma rivers were the two major obstacles and challenges to establishing a road communication network across the country with Dhaka, the capital of independent Bangladesh. Even after 50 years of independence, Bangladesh could never show the courage to show its economic capabilities. Big-budget projects have always depended on foreign loans.

After the construction of the Bangabandhu Bridge in 1998, connecting Bhuapur on the east bank of Jamuna and Sirajganj on the west bank and establishing a solid road connection with the eastern and western parts of the country, the only demand of the citizens was the Padma Bridge, through which Jajira Shariatpur, Shibchar, and Madaripur districts will connect with Lauhjong of Munshiganj.

Following thousands of rules and regulations of the World Bank and donor organizations, the World Bank has canceled the pledge of 1.2 billion dollars of loan support by alleging corruption and irregularities in the operation of the mega project of the Padma Bridge. As is customary for such projects, as the main lender leaves, the other aid agencies, ADB, JICA, and IDB, also leave one by one.

With so many complaints and insults in mind, the Prime Minister announced the construction of Padma Bridge the challenge, with their own government's funds without stepping back. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's dream of hunger-poverty and economic liberation will be implemented today ! with the hand of our honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina!

The work of Padma Bridge considered the most challenging construction project in the history of Bangladesh, began November 26, 2014. The bridge's construction is in two layers of steel and concrete; the bridge has a four-lane roadway on the upper level and a railway track on the lower level.

Then came that long-time, expected golden time. June 23, 2022, will be written in golden letters in the history of Bangladesh. On this day, Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, officially opened the Padma Bridge for the first time by paying the toll at the Mawa end and thereby inaugurated the bridge. Padma Bridge is no longer a dream now. It is now a glorious golden pride for every Bangladeshi.
