In 1947, East Pakistan's 'Parishad Bhavan' or 'Assembly Hall'. It was incorporated as a living room of Jagannath Hall in 1985. After the country's independence in 1971, it was named 'Anudvaipayan Bhavan' after the martyred residential teacher Anudvaipayan Bhattacharya. At present, the 'October Memorial Building' stands here.

The 150-year-old structure had already been deemed uninhabitable before the catastrophe in 1985. The well-known television serial drama "Shukatara," created with the story of the liberation war, began airing at 8:30 pm on October 15, 1975. Furthermore, Jagannath Hall student Shuvro Deb performed in that play.

Ignoring the nasty weather, many students gathered to watch the drama. At around 9.45 pm, the roof of the building collapsed on the students, and this tragic tragedy occurred.

Thirty-nine people were killed. Among the dead were 25 university students and 14 staff and guests. In commemoration of this tragic Jagannath hall tragedy day, October 15 has been celebrated as 'Dhaka University Mourning Day' since the following year—all our respects to all those killed and injured that day.
